Sustainable September at KCU
Small Changes, Big Impact
At Kilrush Credit Union, we're proud to support our members in making smart financial choices. This September, we're also encouraging small changes that can have a positive impact on the environment.
As part of Sustainable September, we're highlighting some simple ways members can help us reduce paper usage, lower waste and cut unnecessary printing and postage, while enjoying the convenience of our digital services.
Make the Most of Online Banking
Our recently redesigned mobile app makes it easier than ever to manage your finances wherever you are. From checking balances and transferring money to applying for loans and accessing SEPA Instant Payments, the app puts your credit union at your fingertips.
If you're already registered for Online Banking, thank you. You're helping us reduce paper and provide more efficient services to our members.
Not registered yet? September is the perfect time to get started. Click here to register now.
Win a Voucher This September
To celebrate our digital services and encourage more members to get connected, we're giving away €150 in vouchers.
All members who are registered for Online Banking by 30 September will automatically be entered into our prize draw.
Whether you've been using our app for years or sign up during September, you'll be included.
Help Us Reduce Paper Even Further
Many members have already switched to eStatements and eAGM notifications, helping us significantly reduce paper consumption.
The next step, if you haven't already made the switch, is opting in to receive eStatements & eAGM notifications through the app. By choosing digital communications, you'll help reduce printing and postage while ensuring you receive important information quickly and securely.

Sustainable week in KCU
Our Sustainable September programme is inspired by European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW), a Europe-wide initiative that encourages communities, organisations and individuals to take practical action in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since 2015, ESDW has provided a platform for thousands of sustainability-focused events across Europe, helping to raise awareness of how local actions can contribute to a more sustainable future.
At Kilrush Credit Union, we believe that small changes can make a big difference. That's why we're delighted to bring a number of community-focused sustainability initiatives to our members and the wider community this September.
Community Book Exchange
21st September – All week | Kilrush Credit Union Branch
Throughout the week, we'll be hosting a Community Book Exchange in our branch. The idea is simple:
- Bring a book
- Take a book
- Or simply borrow a book for the week
Whether you're looking for your next great read or have a favourite book you'd like to pass on, everyone is welcome to get involved.
We're delighted that all books are being supplied by local charity Corlann and their wonderful Bookery bookshop in Kilrush. Their support helps make this community initiative possible while promoting reuse, sharing, and a love of reading.
Repair It, Don't Replace It
Wednesday 23rd September | 1.00pm Kilrush Business Centre Hub
Join Wendy for our free community sewing workshop, designed to encourage sustainable fashion through mending, altering and upcycling clothing.
Learn practical skills such as repairing tears, replacing buttons, taking up jeans, adjusting clothing for a better fit, and giving old garments a new lease of life. By repairing and reusing clothes instead of disposing of them, we can help reduce textile waste, save money and make more sustainable choices.
Places are limited and advance registration is encouraged:

KCU Staff Sustainability Challenge
Behind the scenes, our team will also be embracing Sustainable September with an internal sustainability week.
Staff members will be taking part in:
- Bring Your Own Lunch initiatives
- Sustainability awareness activities
- The KCU Staff Step Challenge
Our goal is to collectively walk as many steps during the week as we can and we'd love our members to join in the fun.
Win a €50 Town Voucher
Think you can guess how many steps the KCU team will achieve by the end of the week?
Members can enter our "Guess the Steps" Challenge for a chance to win a €50 Town Voucher.
Submit your guess by:
- Sending us a DM on social media
- Emailing the credit union on info@kilrushcreditunion.ie
- Calling into the branch and letting our staff know your prediction
The closest guess wins!
Together, through small actions such as sharing books, repairing clothing, reducing waste and staying active, we can all play a part in building a more sustainable future for our community. We look forward to seeing you at our Sustainable September events.
