EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)

A full range of EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) services are available to all members. This means that each credit union account has its own sort code, unique eight digit account number, BIC and IBAN.

As a result members can have social welfare, child benefit, pensions and other payments sent directly to their credit union account. The credit union can also transfer money to other financial institutions and utility companies on a member’s behalf, thereby reducing cash transactions and increasing security for members.

SEPA Payments

Instant Payments and Verification of Payee (VOP)

Since October 2025, banks and payment service providers in Ireland and across the eurozone rolled out SEPA Instant payments which allows consumers and businesses to make a euro payment to a payee within 10 seconds, 24 hours a day, any day of the year.

Alongside this, a new Verification of Payee service, known as VOP, will also be rolled out for all SEPA payments. VOP works by checking the payee name entered for a payment against the name associated with recipient’s account. This will help customers ensure that their payments are going to the right recipient.

These additional services were introduced as part of the EU’s Instant Payments Regulation. Since January 2025, banks and payment service providers across the eurozone were required to receive SEPA Instant payments and from 9th October 2025 were required to offer their customers the ability to send SEPA Instant payments.

What is a SEPA payment?

SEPA stands for Single Euro Payments Area. A SEPA payment is sent through the SEPA Scheme. The SEPA payment scheme was created to simplify euro transfers between EU member states.

To make a SEPA payment you need:

  1. The IBAN of the person you want to pay
  2. The bank to which you are sending the payment to be a member of the SEPA scheme
  3. The payment to be in euro

Quick Lodge Facility

The Quick lodge facility can save members queuing time. It can be used for making loan repayments or lodgements to savings. The Quick Lodge facilities are located in the Kilrush office. It is a safe and secure way of making lodgements to your Kilrush Credit Union account. There are envelopes available by the Quick Lodge area.
