Building the Student Hub – A Personal Project on Co-Op
My name is Beth Walsh and I am a 3rd year student in TUS studying Business and Digital Marketing. As part of my college placement with Kilrush Credit Union, I was given the opportunity to work on a project that I knew would be both challenging and rewarding, creating a Student Hub designed to support students through every stage of college life. As a student myself, I understood how overwhelming it can feel starting college, managing money, and thinking about the future, so this project felt both relevant and meaningful from the very beginning.
The idea behind the Student Hub was simple: create a space where students could find clear, practical advice all in one place. When you’re starting out, there’s often so much information available, but not all of it feels easy to understand or relevant. I wanted to build something that was straightforward, student-friendly, and genuinely useful, something I would have found helpful myself.
From planning the structure of the hub to writing the content, this project gave me the chance to think about what students actually need. The hub covers key areas such as moving out of home, settling into college life, managing your money, and preparing for life after study. Each section is designed to break things down into simple, manageable steps, with tips that are practical and easy to follow.
One of the most important parts of the hub is the focus on financial awareness. I included sections on budgeting, understanding financial terms, and comparing different financial services, as these are areas many students find confusing at first. There’s also information on student loans, bursaries, and everyday banking, helping students feel more confident about their financial decisions.
Another feature I’m really proud of is the inclusion of student advice sections. To make these as relevant as possible, I put questions directly to real students to gather honest insights and experiences. This brings a more personal side to the hub, allowing students to learn from others who have already gone through similar situations, whether that’s managing money, adjusting to college life, or transitioning into the working world with the help of CV guidance and interview preparation tips.
Working on this project during my co-op has been a great experience. It allowed me to develop my skills, take ownership of a meaningful piece of work, and contribute something that will hopefully make a difference for other students. Seeing the hub come together from an idea into a finished resource has been incredibly rewarding.
The Student Hub is designed by a student, for students, and I hope it helps make the transition into college and beyond that little bit easier.
