Fraud Alert: Fake Payee Messages & Energy Grant Scam
Kilrush Credit Union is warning members to remain vigilant following reports of fraudulent text messages targeting credit union members.
Two scams have recently been identified:
1️⃣ Fake “New Payee Created” Message
Members may receive a text message claiming that a new payee has been added to their account. The message often urges the recipient to call a phone number provided in the text.
2️⃣ Fake €1,500 Energy Grant Offer
Members have also reported receiving texts claiming that long-standing credit union members are entitled to a €1,500 energy grant. These messages include a link to a malicious website designed to capture personal and online banking details.
In both cases, the fraudsters may attempt to gather sensitive information such as online banking PIN details, personal data, or One-Time Passcodes (OTP).
Important Reminder
Do not click on suspicious links.
Do not call phone numbers included in unsolicited text messages.
Kilrush Credit Union will never ask for your full PIN or One-Time Passcodes.
If you receive a suspicious message and are unsure, please contact us directly using the official phone number listed on our website.
