Kilrush Credit Union Launches Free Financial Literacy Programme for the Community
Kilrush Credit Union is delighted to announce the launch of a new Financial Literacy Programme, designed to support individuals, schools and community groups across West Clare in building confidence when it comes to managing money.
Developed in partnership with the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) and online learning platform Alison, the programme provides free, accessible financial education covering everyday topics such as budgeting, saving, borrowing and scam awareness. Alison provides access to thousands of free courses across a wide range of subjects, making learning accessible and flexible for everyone.
At a time when many people are facing increasing financial pressures, the initiative aims to provide practical guidance that helps individuals make informed, confident decisions about their money.
Supporting Real-Life Financial Skills
The programme offers a series of short, self-paced online courses that focus on real-life money skills rather than complex financial theory.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn:
- How to manage day-to-day spending and build a simple budget
- Practical ways to save and plan for the future
- How credit works and how to avoid common borrowing pitfalls
- How to recognise and protect themselves from financial scams
Each course is designed to be completed in just 1.5 to 3 hours and can be accessed on mobile, tablet or desktop, making it easy to fit learning around daily life.
Bringing Financial Education to the Community
As a not-for-profit, member-owned organisation, Kilrush Credit Union has always been committed to supporting the financial wellbeing of its members and the wider community.
This new programme builds on existing initiatives such as school partnerships, the Student Hub and community engagement projects, helping to ensure that people of all ages have access to clear, practical financial guidance.
While the courses are delivered online, Kilrush Credit Union will also support local schools, youth groups and organisations by helping bring the learning to life through discussion and practical examples.
Building Confidence for the Future
Research highlighted as part of the programme shows that many people across Ireland feel unprepared when it comes to managing their finances, reinforcing the importance of accessible, easy-to-understand education.
By providing these resources free of charge, Kilrush Credit Union is helping to remove barriers to financial learning and ensure that everyone in the community has the opportunity to build essential life skills.
Get Involved
The Financial Literacy Programme is open to individuals, schools and community groups across the Kilrush Credit Union common bond.
Anyone interested in taking part or arranging a session for their school or organisation is encouraged to get in touch with the team.
