KCU Launches the Mick Tevlin Student Bursary
Kilrush Credit Union is proud to announce the launch of the Mick Tevlin Student Bursary, a new annual initiative created to support local students as they progress to further and higher education.
The bursary has been established in memory of Mick Tevlin, who served on the Board of Directors of Kilrush Credit Union for over 20 years. Mick was a dedicated advocate for education and a strong supporter of young people within our community. His commitment to the credit union movement and to local initiatives left a lasting impact.
Throughout his years of service, Mick consistently championed opportunities that supported students starting out on their educational and career journeys. He was a familiar presence at our annual school quiz, volunteering his time year after year, encouraging students and celebrating their efforts. His belief in investing in young people continues to inspire this new initiative.
Under the Mick Tevlin Student Bursary, one €1,000 bursary will be awarded to a student from each secondary school within our common bond — Kilrush Community School and Kilkee Community College.
The bursary is open to members of Kilrush Credit Union who are progressing to:
Third-level education (college or university)
Further education, including recognised PLC courses
Registered apprenticeship programmes
The award is not based on academic performance, but rather on eligibility and a random draw from completed applications received by the closing date, 31st August 2026. Successful applicants must provide proof of enrolment before the bursary is paid.
Speaking about the launch, Kilrush Credit Union said:
“Mick was deeply committed to supporting young people and believed strongly in the importance of education. This bursary reflects his values and allows us to continue investing in the future of our community in a way that honours his legacy.”
Applications are now open, and full details, eligibility criteria and application forms are available on our website or by contacting our office directly.
Kilrush Credit Union remains committed to supporting education, opportunity and community development — values that Mick Tevlin upheld throughout his many years of service.
